Mission Opportunity for Families of REZ

On our second annual mission trip to South Dakota, we stayed at the church and home of Pastor Stanley Hollowhorn and his wife, Sylvia, at the Wounded Knee Church of God.  Pastor Hollowhorn is ministering to the area surrounding the last battlefield of the Lakota Sioux tribe at Wounded Knee, South Dakota.  Wounded Knee is in the southern portion of the Pine Ridge Reservation in S.W. South Dakota.  The relationship with Pastor and Sylvia Hollowhorn began last summer after sensing God's call for us to be in a strategic partnership in ministry.  Stanley has a similar vision for the transformation of the area and is a catalyst for bringing that kind of Kingdom Transformation to the families and communities that surround Wounded Knee. He is the first Native American Pastor of this church since it began in 1930. Additionally, he grew up on this reservation. Our whole community should be lifting up Stanley and Sylvia in prayer as they seek to transform Wounded Knee from darkness to light.

REZ partnered with The Light of Christ (TLC), another AMIA church in Denver, in this outreach. We picked up kids for a youth sports camp and arts and crafts time on Saturday and Sunday. Teke Sankey was the grill master for 90 people on our Sunday afternoon community meal. God surely provided, as we intended to feed 75 and were able to stretch the loaves and fish! We served another community meal on Saturday, bonding as brothers and sisters in Christ amongst the mission team, and truly being touched by the joy we saw in the children there playing with us. What a beautiful trip it was. We intend to extend our stay next summer to a full week. There is so much opportunity to share the gospel and love these people!    

REZ and other churches will be collecting over 1,000 Shoe Box gifts again this upcoming Christmas season to be delivered in partnership with Arise! Ministries to Wounded Knee. This relationship will be long lasting and we pray for God's favor over this initiative.
