Laughing & Learning Together

Every Sunday Morning our children
take part in a special time of ministry
as they are learning together about
the basics of our faith in the words
found in the Nicene Creed.

Timeless truth is captured in sound bite
form in the creed and we are helping
our children to unpack and understand
what each phrase means to them.

Things I've learned from my children
(honest & no kidding):

The following came from an anonymous Mother in Austin, Texas

1. A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft.

 house 4  inches deep.
2.
If you spray hairspray on dust bunnies and run over them with

 roller blades, they can ignite.
3. A 3-year olds voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded
        restaurant.
4.
If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not
strong enough to rotate a 42 pound boy wearing Batman
underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however,

if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of
       a 20x20 ft. room.
5. You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on.
When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball
up a few times before you  get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit
       a baseball a long way.

6.
The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a baseball
       hit by a ceiling fan
.
7. When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh," it's
       already too late.

8. Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.
9.
A six-year old can start a fire with a flint rock even though
       a 36-year old man says
they can only do it in the movies.
10.
Certain LEGOs will pass through the digestive tract of a
         4-year old.
11.
Playdough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.
12. Superglue is forever.
13.
No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you
        still can't walk on water.

14. Pool filters do not like Jell-O.
15.
VCR's do not eject PB&J sandwiches even though TV
         commercials show they do.
16.
Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.
17.
Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.
18. You probably do not want to know what that odor is.
19.
Always look in the oven before you turn it on. Plastic
         toys do not like ovens
.
20. The fire department in Austin, TX has a 5-minute
        response time.
21.
The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make
        earthworms dizzy.
22.
It will, however, make cats dizzy.
23.
Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.
24. The mind of a 6-year old is wonderful.

An Outpouring of Power

The first Pentecost was a "water shed" event in the life of The Church.  Those 12 disciples, after ten days of prayer and waiting, were overwhelmed by an Out Pouring of "The Promise of the Father" - the promised Holy Spirit.

Spoken of from nearly 700 years in advance, this day was the new beginning that the 12, now become 120 in that Upper Room, had to have to see the reality and the fullness and the power of what God was doing in their midst.  The Holy Spirit is the motive power for our life in Christ!  He is, in fact, the very presence of Christ himself, living in and subsequently, out - through us.  Jesus was clear with his followers on his last night, as they walked past the vineyards towards the Garden of Gethsemane, "I am the vine & you are the branches... apart from me, you can do nothing!" (Jn 15)

It is by the power of the Holy Spirit, living in us (see Jn 14 & 16 and Acts 1-2) that we are able to live the life of Christ today - being His Body now on this planet!  The New Testament is very clear on our need and his provision.  The Holy Spirit is referred to as "The Promise of the Father" by Jesus in Luke's gospel, as Jesus refers to the Old Testament Prophetic promises of a new heart and new spirit given by God, in Jeremiah and Ezekiel.

The tapestry is rich and colorful around this OUTPOURING of God's Power into our lives.  We are given His Spirit in order to live His Life !!  In Acts, just as Jesus ascended he said to his followers there,  "in not many days hence you will receive all that my Father has promised.  So stay here and wait for this promise, and when the Holy Spirit has come and filled you with His Power, you will by My witnesses (literally martyrs) in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria and out to the furthest corners of the earth."

Join us in this adventure, with Jesus, His Father and the Holy Spirit given - poured out - in a real, day to day, walk of faith. There is no adventure on earth that can match it!  Come & See!
